Esra Eslen is an Istanbul-based illustrator, graphic designer, and visual artist whose practice explores fear, chaos, violence, and the darker sides of the human experience. Born into a family with an artistic background, Esra began drawing from an early age and has continued to develop her visual language throughout her practice. Since 2021, she has been sharing her artwork online, and in 2025, she graduated from the Graphic Design Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. She now works as a full-time artist, focusing on her own artistic practice.

Esra’s work is built around the contrast between disturbing subjects and playful visual language. She approaches fear and horror through childish colors, absurd scenes, and exaggerated characters, transforming brutal and uncomfortable realities into visually engaging worlds. Her artworks can be described as gore, brutal, dark, and maximalist, while maintaining a sense of humor and innocence that creates tension between what is seen and what is being depicted.

Her practice often reimagines stories that carry painful experiences and deeper realities, presenting them through surreal and visually chaotic compositions. Rather than portraying fear solely as something threatening, Esra explores the strange, ridiculous, and sometimes familiar aspects hidden within it. This contrast allows her work to move between discomfort and humor, innocence and violence, nostalgia and melancholy.

Nostalgic imagery and familiar visual elements play an important role in Esra’s artistic language. Drawing from the aesthetics and emotional memories of childhood, she believes nostalgia can create a direct connection with the viewer, while melancholy gives these familiar elements a deeper emotional weight. Through this combination, Esra creates colorful yet unsettling worlds where innocence and brutality coexist, inviting viewers to confront uncomfortable emotions through an unexpectedly playful lens.
